The Active Notepad Line contains the basic information for the active annotation. An annotation is considered "active" if you have either just finished Digitize Library Items it, or if you have Manage Annotations it. The information within the Active Notepad Line cannot be edited; it solely informational.

When multiple items of the same type (count, length, area, or volume) are selected, the Active Notepad line will display the sum of their quantities. The items don't have to have the same reference, description, or unit type. Items are only matched by item type, which means the application could show a total quantity for several items with different units. For example, you could view multiple items with a type of length but with units of inches and linear feet, which would make the total quantity meaningless. When multiple items are shown, the Comment field in the active notepad line displays %%Quantity is the total of multiple items.
