Digitize a drawing using world coordinates
- Examine the drawings you want to use in the job and make sure that the drawings use Northing/Easting world coordinates.
-
Using colored pens, label each Northing/Easting world coordinate points on all the drawings.
Open a job in the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen.
-
Starting with the first drawing in the job, digitize all the elevations and areas on the drawing.
Note: IMPORTANT: To create a site perimeter for the final job totals, you can either digitize a site perimeter for each drawing and add the perimeters together in the Summary tab to calculate the job totals, or you can use the mouse to trace a single site perimeter that includes all the drawings.
- Keep the first drawing on the digitizer.
- Select the Takeoff tab, if it is not already active.
- Click Estimating > Earthwork > Takeoff > Add New Paper Plan Using Northing/Easting in the All Tasks pane.
- In the Northing field, enter the Northing coordinate of the first point on the current drawing, using up to ten (10) digits plus four (4) decimals.
- In the Easting field, enter the Easting coordinate of the first point on the current drawing, using up to ten (10) digits plus four (4) decimals.
- Click Locate Point.
- Digitize the first Northing/Easting world coordinate point.
-
If you are using the direction of North for the second world coordinate value for the drawing, select the Direction option button, click Digitize Vector, digitize the South point of the North compass on the drawing, then digitize the North point of the North compass.
The direction of North appears in the compass preview.
-
If you are using a second Northing/Easting world coordinate for the second coordinate value for the drawing, select the Second Point option button, enter the Northing coordinate of the second point on the current drawing in the Northing field, enter the Easting coordinate of the second point in the Easting field, click Locate Point, and digitize the second Northing/Easting world coordinate point.
The direction of North appears in the compass preview.
- Click Next.
- Remove the current drawing from the digitizer and secure the second drawing on the digitizer.
- Enter the scale for the second drawing you want to use for the job.
- Click Next.
- Locate the second drawing on the digitizer.
- Click Next.
- In the Northing field, enter the Northing coordinate of the first point on the second drawing.
- In the Easting field, enter the Easting coordinate of the first point on the second drawing.
- Click Locate Point.
- Digitize the first Northing/Easting world coordinate point.
-
If you are using the direction of North for the second world coordinate value for the second drawing, select the Direction option button, click Digitize Vector, digitize the South point of the North compass on the drawing, then digitize the North point of the North compass.
