Drawing Tools

The tools in the Drawing section are used to create annotations on the image. The annotation types available are Line, Arrow, Freehand, Polyline, Polygon, Oval, Sticky Note, Callout, Text Box, and Rectangle).

For all the tools, apart from the Sticky Note tool, you can change the color and line settings in the Annotation Options screen.

Add an Annotation

Follow these steps to add an annotation to an image.

  1. In the Drawing section, select a tool.
  2. On the drawing, left-click and hold the mouse button down where you want to start the annotation. Release the mouse button when you are finished drawing the item.
    For a Polyline or Polygon, click the left mouse button to end a line and start the next one of your shape. When the shape is finished, double-click to end it.
  3. Repeat as required.
When the item is complete, you will see it in its selected color.

Add a Note to an Annotation

Follow these steps to add a note to an annotation.

  1. Select Edit.
  2. Highlight the annotation you want to add the note to.
  3. Right-click and do one of the following:
    • For the Callout and Text Box tool, select Edit Text.

    • For all other annotation types, select Note.

  4. Type the note and then select away from the annotation.

Change the Color and Line Settings of an Annotation

Follow these steps to change the color and line settings of an annotation.

  1. Select Edit.
  2. Highlight the annotation you want to edit.
  3. Right-click and select Properties.
    The Annotation Options window appears. The options available depend on the annotation type selected.
  4. Make any changes and select OK.

Resize an Annotation

Follow these steps to resize an annotation.

You can resize all annotation types apart from a Callout.
  1. Select Edit.
    A box displays around the annotation with anchors in each corner and middle of the shape.
  2. Grab one of the annotation's outline anchors and drag it in the direction you need to shrink or enlarge the shape.

Move an Annotation

Follow these steps to move an annotation.

  1. Select Edit.
    A box displays around the annotation with anchors in each corner and middle of the shape.
  2. Place the mouse inside the annotation (not on an anchor) and drag it to the required location.

Delete an Annotation

Follow these steps to delete an annotation.

  1. Select Edit.
  2. Highlight the annotation to delete.
  3. Delete as using one of the following options:
    • Right-click and select Delete.
    • Press Delete on the keyboard.
