Topics Listing

You can use the Topics tab to create and manage Topics to communicate information with all stakeholders throughout the project.

The Topics list displays the Topics added to the project. You can add Topics and collaborate with other project members. Topics are visible to all project members.

Show Topics in 3D

Enable Show Topics in 3D at the top of the Topics listing to display the Topic Marker icons in 3D.

This makes it possible to see visually in 3D where the listed Topics are located.

The Topic 3D Marker is a Trimble Connect Topic feature. The BCF Topics standard does not support markers. This means that the markers are available in the Trimble Connect context. When importing or exporting Topics using the buildingSMART BCF-XML file format, then the Markers are not included.

Marker Behavior

When the Topics listing is visible and the "Show Topics in 3D" option is turned on, then multiple marker icons are displayed in 3D.

Other Important Notes

  • The Topics listing filtering and searching impacts which marker icons are visible in 3D: If a user has searched/filtered the Topics listing, only the marker icons of the search/filter results are displayed in 3D.
  • When a single Topic is active in the Topics panel (the Topic details are visible), then only the marker icon of the active Topic is displayed in 3D.
  • Clicking a marker icon in 3D opens the Topics details panel for the Topic.

Filter Topics

Filter Topics by the ones that have been assigned to you or all Topics in the project.

Search Topics

Topics can be searched by using the search field in the 3D viewer.

Only Topics that are matching the search will be shown in the results.

Search for a keyword in:
  • All fields
  • Assignee
  • Creator
  • Description
  • Priority
  • Status
  • Tags
  • Title
  • Type

To search:

  1. Open your project in Trimble Connect for Browser and navigate to the 3D Viewer.
  2. After you have loaded a model inside the Viewer, open the Topics panel.
  3. Select Search to open the search field.
  4. Type the search word in the search field.
  5. Select the field you want to search in.
    The list will be filtered.

Sort Topics

You can sort Topics by Assignee, Author, Creation date, Date modified, Priority, Status, and Title in the 3D viewer.

By default, Topics are sorted by Date created (latest Topic on top).

To sort the Topics listing:

  1. Open your project in Trimble Connect for Browser and navigate to the 3D Viewer.
  2. After you have loaded a model inside the Viewer, open the Topics panel.
  3. Open the Sort drop-down menu.
  4. Choose the desired sort order.
The listing order is updated.
