Modified: 7 Jun 2026 Viewpoint Estimating Estimating Help

Use the following steps to create a separate area for each selected vector.

  1. Open a job in the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen.
Note: To open a job in the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen, click Estimating > Earthwork > Manage Earthwork Estimates in the All Tasks pane. Click Open Existing Job. Then select the job you want to open, and click OK.
  2. Select the Area tab, if it is not already active.
  3. In the Active Layer field on the toolbar, click to select the layer for which you want to digitize an area.
  4. Click Vector on the speedbar to enable vector functionality (if not already enabled).
Note: For newly imported PDF files that contain vectors, the Vector tool is automatically enabled. If the Vector tool is disabled in a newly imported PDF file, then the file does contain any vectors.
  5. In the vector layers window, select the vector layers that contain the vectors you want to digitize.
  6. Do one following to select the vectors for the areas you want to digitize:
    • Click Select on the speedbar, hold the Shift key, and left-click on each vector.
    • Click Multi on the speedbar and left-click on each vector.
  7. Press Ctrl+C, or right-click and select Copy from the menu.
  8. Click Vector on the speedbar to disable vector functionality.
  9. Press Ctrl+V, or right-click and select Paste from the menu. The application creates a distinct area for each selected vector.
  10. To set the properties for an area, click Prop. on the speedbar. For more information, see Area Properties.
