Change a Line to a Daylight Line

The daylight feature allows you to digitize a line where the existing layer meets the proposed layer. You can create daylight lines only in the proposed layer.

1. Open a job in the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen.
   Note: To open a job in the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen, click Estimating > Earthwork > Manage Earthwork Estimates in the All Tasks pane. Click Open Existing Job. Then select the job you want to open, and click OK.
2. Select the Takeoff tab, if it is not already active.
3. In the Active Layer field on the toolbar, click to select the proposed layer. Note that you can only daylight proposed lines.
4. Click Point or Trace on the speedbar.
   Tip: You can use the Align to Image tool to improve speed and accuracy during digitizing. When you digitize a drawing with the Align to Image tool activated, Viewpoint Estimating aligns the takeoff line to the closest black pixel. You can set the default sensitivity of the tool in Preferences. You can press and hold Shift to turn Align to Image on and off as you digitize a drawing.

   Note: When digitizing against a colored background, turn OFF the Align to Image tool.
5. Digitize a line where the existing layer meets the proposed.
   Note: You can also select a line you have already digitized and change it to a daylight line. Additionally, you can also daylight a site perimeter by selecting Daylight in the Area’s Properties popup window.
6. Click Finished on the speedbar.
7. Click Prop .
8. Select the Daylight checkbox. The Elevation column displays daylight for all the points along that line.
9. Click OK. Note that the line is labeled daylight.
