Digitize a Trench Using the Vector Tool

  1. Open a job in the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen.
    Note: To open a job in the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen, click Estimating > Earthwork > Manage Earthwork Estimates in the All Tasks pane. Click Open Existing Job. Then select the job you want to open, and click OK.
  2. Select the Trench tab, if it is not already active.
  3. Click Vector on the speedbar to enable vector functionality (if not already enabled).
    Note: For newly imported PDF files that contain vectors, the Vector tool is automatically enabled. If the Vector tool is disabled in a newly imported PDF file, then the file does contain any vectors.
  4. In the vector layers window, select the vector layers that contain the vectors you want to digitize.
  5. In the Pipe Invert field on the speedbar, enter the starting pipe invert value.
  6. Do one following to select the vectors within the trench:
    • Click Select on the speedbar, hold the Shift key, and left-click on each vector within the trench you want to digitize.
    • Click Multi on the speedbar and left-click on each vector within the trench you want to digitize.
  7. Complete the annotation by right-clicking or by clicking Finished on the speedbar.
  8. Complete the fields as described on the Trench Popup Window Field Reference.
  9. If you want to save the changes you made to the template or if you entered a name for a new template and want to save the trench as a new template, click Save Template and click OK.
  10. If you want to undo your changes and restore the original template settings, click Restore on the Elevations tab.
  11. Click Finished.
