WBS Names tab

These WBS/UBS names you enter are used in many places throughout Viewpoint Estimating. These names are used as column headers in the tabs in the Manage Estimates screen and many other places where you work with WBS/UBS codes. By default, the WBS/UBS codes are named WBS1 through WBS20 and UBS1 through UBS5. Select Apply to save your changes and continue working.

Field Description
Default Code Name (unlabeled)Displays the default name for the WBS or UBS code.
CodeEnter a descriptive name in the Code column. By default, the UBS codes are named UBS1 through UBS5 and the WBS codes are named WBS1 through WBS20.
ParentSelect the parent UBS or WBS code, which will link the values of the codes. For example, if the following values were defined for WBS1:
  • 01 (General Requirements)
  • 02 (Sitework)
  • Say you define the following values for WBS2:

  • 01.01 (Construction Photography)
  • 01.02 (Mobilization)
  • 02.01 (Bedding and Backfill Materials)
  • 02.02 (Paving Materials)

If you make WBS1 the parent for WBS2, when you select a value for WBS2 in a cost item, Viewpoint Estimating will change the value for WBS1 to the corresponding value. If you set the value for WBS2 in a cost item to 02.02 (Paving Materials), Viewpoint Estimating changes the value for WBS1 to 02.01 (Bedding and Backfill Materials). If you then change WBS2 to 01.01 (Construction Photography), Viewpoint Estimating changes WBS1 to 01 (General Requirements).

MaskEnter characters that will appear in place of the code value when adding or editing values.
Read OnlySelect the checkbox to make the code read only, which prevents any one from changing the code value on a cost item. WBS codes used with Alternates and Change Orders are set to read only automatically.
UBS CodesSelect to manage the values for UBS codes. See WBS/UBS Code Values for more information.
WBS CodesSelect to manage the values for WBS codes. See WBS/UBS Code Values for more information.
Note: If you want to remove a WBS/UBS code from the Catalog tab, delete the WBS/UBS code name from the field. This removes it from all parts of the tab, including when you set up column views.

Export Names tab

The export names you enter are used for column headings in the Catalog and Estimate tabs and when you export estimates to other applications. Select Apply to save your changes and continue working.
FieldDescription
NameEnter a descriptive name for the export field. By default, the six Export codes are named Export1 through Export6.
Read OnlySelect the checkbox to make the export code read only, which prevents any one from changing the code value on a cost item.
Note: If you want to remove an export code from the Catalog tab, delete the Export code name from the field. This removes it from all parts of the tab, including when you set up column views.

Other Names tab

Use the Other Names tab to name the additional cost types for cost items. By default, these ten other cost types are named Other1 through Other10. These cost types are in addition to the defaults: Material, Labor, Equipment, SubContr, which have corresponding defaults in the Estimate tab and in the Cost Type screen.

While you can define different cost types for the Catalog and Estimate tab, Viewpoint recommends that you use the same cost types throughout the Estimating module. Use the Estimating Explorer screen to copy the Other cost types between catalogs and estimates.

Use this tab to create descriptive names for the ten Other cost types available in the Estimating module. By default, these ten other codes are named Other1 through Other10 and are intended to give you the ability to create 10 extra types of cost items along with the default material, labor, equipment, and so on when you find a need to do so. These names are used as column headers in the Catalog tab and many other places in the Catalog tab where you work with other cost items. Select Apply to save your changes and continue working.

Note: If you want to remove an Other code from the Catalog tab, delete the Other code name from the field. This will remove it from all parts of the tab, including when you set up column views.

Allocated Names

The Allocated Names tab allows you to specify the names for the allocated fields used in Allocation of Financial Cost Items Overview. The fields Allocated 1 and Allocated 2 cannot be changed. Select Apply to save your changes and continue working.

Note: The remaining fields are not supported in the accounting functions such as bid reports, print proposals, and project manager worksheet. Allocations made to these types do not affect billing or budget amounts.

Calculator Parameters tab

The Calculator Parameters tab enables you to specify the costs of fuel and the number of work hours in given time frames. The values you enter are used in the equipment cost calculator for equipment cost items that use fuel and calculate time in hours. The job has to be in exclusive mode before you open the Define Globals window for you to be able to edit the values in this tab. Select Apply to save your changes and continue working.

FieldDescription
Cost Per Gallon
DieselEnter the cost per gallon of diesel fuel you want to use in the catalog.
GasolineEnter the cost per gallon of gasoline you want to use in the catalog.
Work Hours
Per DayEnter the actual number of work hours in a day.
Per WeekEnter the actual number of work hours in a week.
Per MonthEnter the actual number of work hours in a month.
Per YearEnter the actual number of work hours in a year.

Mark Ups tab

The Mark Ups tab specifies the additional markups you want to apply to cost items in the catalog using theMarkup Calculator. For each field, enter the appropriate name for the markup. Keep in mind that fields M1 through M6 are percentage markups and that field M7 and M8 are fixed dollar amount markups.

The markup fields can have different names in the estimate tab; however, if you use a cost item from the catalog in the estimate, the markup field values are initially the same even if the field names are different. Select Apply to save your changes and continue working.

Note: Viewpoint recommends that you name the markup fields the same in the catalog and in the estimate.

Overrides tab

The Overrides tab allows you to specify different values for the same field within a particular cost item, when that cost item is used by more than one assembly in the catalog. This feature is useful in coding billing systems for accounting systems, as well as phase codes for project management systems.

You may select up to five override fields: reference, description, comment, any WBS field, or any Export field.

To specify an override field, select it from one of the five drop-down lists shown on the Overrides tab. Select Apply to save your changes and continue working.

Rounding tab

Use this tab to enable RS Means rounding rules for the catalog. RS Means rounding rules simplify unit prices while maintaining adequate precision.

RS Means rounding rules are as follows:

Price rangeRounded to the nearest
Under $5.00$0.01
$5.01 to $20.00$0.05
$20.01 to $100.00$0.50
$100.01 to $300.00$1.00
$300.01 to $1,000.00$5.00
$1,000.01 to $10,000.00$25.00
$10,000.01 to $50,000.00$100.00
$50,000.01 and above$500.00

Select theEnable Rounding checkbox to enable rounding; otherwise, no rounding is performed. Select Apply to save your changes and continue working.

Note: Consider the following when you change the setting of theEnable Rounding checkbox:
  • You mustRecalculate a Catalog after you change the setting of theEnable Rounding checkbox.
  • Changing the setting of the Enable Rounding checkbox does not affect items you have already taken off.
  • If you insert items from the catalog into the estimate, the rounded prices appear in the estimate only if you have selected the Enable Rounding checkbox for theDefine Estimate Globals. To avoid confusion, Viewpoint recommends that you set the Enable Rounding checkbox the same for both catalog globals and estimate globals.

WBS Merge popup window

Use the WBS Merge popup window to combine up to four WBS codes into a single WBS code to use as the Project Billing Format screen when you create a project from an estimate using the Enter Project Manager Worksheet or export the estimate to a separate accounting package. Select OK to return to theWBS Names tab tab.

FieldDescription
Level WBS Code FieldSelect the WBS code to use at that level. A selected WBS code can only be used once in the merged WBS code. The number of levels available is determined by the number of WBS codes selected when you selected WBS Merge.
Level DelimiterSelect the delimiter to be used between billing code levels.
TargetSelect the WBS code into which the selected WBS codes will be merged.
