Configure Reporting Services

If you're installing your application on the server for the first time, and if you're using Reporting Services, you can opt to set it up after installing SQL on the server, even if you haven't installed the application at workstations.

Note: Reporting Services is a feature applicable only to the full version of SQL Server, and only if you are installing a network system. If you are setting up a stand-alone system, or are using SQL Express, you don't need to configure reporting services and should instead proceed to the next step in the installation process, which is to Install Viewpoint Estimating™ on a Workstation.

Please review the minimum hardware and software requirements before beginning this installation.

To configure Reporting Services for your instance of SQL:

  1. On the application server, click the Windows Start menu, and select All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server > Configuration Tools > Report Server Configuration Manager.
  2. Click Connect.
  3. In the left pane, click Service Account.
  4. Select the Use built-in account option button.
  5. In the Use built-in account field, click and select Local System.
  6. In the left pane, click Web Service URL.
  7. Do the following:
    1. In the Virtual Directory field, enter ReportServer_PCMX.
    2. In the IP Address field, click and select All Assigned (Recommended).
    3. In the TCP Port field, enter 8080.
      Note: If port 8080 is already used, enter a different port number.
    4. In the SSL Certificate field, click and select (Not Selected).
    5. Leave the SSL Port field blank.
  8. Click Apply.
  9. In the left pane, click Database.
  10. Click Change Database.
  11. Select the Create a new report server database option button.
  12. Click Next.
  13. Do the following:
    1. In the Server Name field, enter the name of the server.
    2. In the Authentication Type field, click and select Current User - Integrated Security.
    3. Click Test Connection.
    4. When you get a Test Connection Succeeded message, click OK.
      Note: If the test connection is unsuccessful, double-check your settings.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Do the following:
    1. In the Database Name field, enter ReportServer$PCMX.
    2. In the Language field, click and select English (United States).
    3. Select the Native Mode option button.
  16. Click Next.
  17. In the Authentication Type field, click and select Service Credentials.
  18. Click Next.
  19. Review the settings and click Next.
  20. When the process is complete, click Finish.
  21. In the left pane, click Report Manager URL.
  22. In the Virtual Directory field, enter Reports_PCMX.
  23. In the URLs field, click the link.
  24. Close or minimize the browser window.
  25. On the Reporting Services Configuration Manager window, click Exit.
The next step is to Install Viewpoint Estimating™ on a Workstation.
