Restrict Access to a Project and its Containers

Modified: 13 May 2026 Viewpoint For Projects Project Management Help

If you want to restrict access for a user to a Project and containers beneath it, you can create a new security group with the Standard Viewer template and configure view permissions for the Project.

  1. Create a new security group with the Standard Viewer template.
  2. Right-click on the Project, go to Configure > Permissions > Configure and select the new security group.
  3. Unselect Allow for all permissions except View Content.
Note: Do not select Deny for these permissions; only unselect Allow.
  4. Right-click on each container directly beneath the Project that you want the user to have access to and go to Configure > Permissions > Configure and select the new security group.
  5. Unselect Allow for all permissions except View Item.
Note: Do not select Deny for these permissions; only unselect Allow.
The user will have view permissions for that Project, any containers beneath it that you set permissions for, and all subcontainers beneath those containers.
