FAQ on Upgrading to Trimble ID

Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about upgrading to Trimble ID, where Jobpac Connect customers will have Trimble ID sign-on enabled, and both classic and VPID sign-ons will be disabled.

What is this change?

In line with Trimble's Connected Construction Platform strategy, Trimble ID will provide a Single Sign-On (SSO) experience to all Trimble solutions. This will enable you to take advantage of the broader technology base throughout the Trimble ecosystem, which means a better software experience for you. One identity to sign on once and access all Trimble solutions. You can also federate your company's SSO requirements with Trimble ID. With Trimble ID soon to be used by all Trimble solutions globally, we bring to you a highly secure and highly stable authentication experience.

How and when will this change happen?

To ensure a smooth transition, we will inform you in advance about the activation date for Trimble Identity in your environment.

  • Between now and your scheduled activation date, please ensure that you are familiar with the activation process and that all users in your organisation are notified of the change.
  • If you are currently federated with Viewpoint ID, you also need to federate with Trimble ID. Please allow two to four weeks for the federation process. You can commence this process by filling out the Trimble ID Federation Request form.
  • When your users sign into Jobpac after Trimble Identity has been activated in your environment, they will be asked to set up their own Trimble ID using an easy-to-follow process. You can watch a video of the process here.
  • After this self-provisioning process, the user's new Trimble ID will be automatically linked to their existing Jobpac profile. Users can use their new Trimble ID to access Jobpac from that moment forward.

For more information about how to prepare for these upcoming changes, see Prepare for the upgrade to Trimble ID.

Who is impacted?

All Trimble Jobpac Connect customers will be upgraded to Trimble ID sign-on.

I'm already using Trimble ID for another Trimble application. How does this impact me?

If you are a user who is already using TID for another Trimble application, you need to link your existing TID to your Jobpac user profile after TID has been activated in your Jobpac environment. The process will be simple and will have just a few steps. Watch this video for more information: Link your TID to your Jobpac account.

What is the timeline for this?

We have planned to transition all Jobpac Connect customers to TID by the end of 2025. We will inform you in advance about the transition date. The date will be based on the Trimble product mix and the authentication method that you are currently using.

What level of involvement will be expected from our company for a successful move to Trimble ID?

We request you to take care of the following to successfully move to Trimble ID:

  • Between now and the activation date, evaluate your organization’s current Jobpac setup, prepare for the upgrade to Trimble ID, inform all the users in your organization about the change, and provide the necessary instructions to them.
  • Please audit your users' Jobpac email addresses (the email address that your users have set up in Jobpac). While it is not mandatory for the email address used for TID to match the user's Jobpac email address, it will make the TID setup process easier.
  • We recommend you ensure that there is no email address duplication, as duplicate email addresses will create additional verification steps to link profiles correctly. See Audit and Edit User Email Addresses for more information.
  • If you are currently federated with Viewpoint ID, you also need to federate with Trimble ID. Please allow two to four weeks for the federation process. You can commence this process by filling out the Trimble ID Federation Request form.
  • After Trimble Identity has been activated in your environment, each of your users will be guided through their own TID setup process the next time they sign on to Jobpac. To see what that process will be like, watch this video: Upgrade Your Login to Trimble ID.

Can I opt out?

The transition to Trimble ID is mandatory for all Jobpac Connect customers. However, if you have any questions or concerns about timing or otherwise, please let us know.

How will we know when our organisation is being migrated?

We will send an email that contains the transition plan well in advance. The email will include:

  • The date of your transition

  • Instructions on next steps and how to join a Trimble ID Transition Webinar
  • A link to a video for your employees to watch
  • And links to all support resources

What can admins do to prepare for this?

There are a number of actions admins can take to make the transition smoother.

  • Watch and share this video with your users: Upgrade Your Login to Trimble ID.

  • Let users know about the upcoming changes.
  • Audit user records to check if correct email addresses have been used. Identify and eliminate duplicate email addresses.
  • As Trimble ID uses an email address for the user name, ensure that each user has an email address to log in with. You also need to verify if the email addresses are getting populated in the Jobpac eContacts Maintenance form.

For additional considerations and more detailed instructions, see Prepare for the Upgrade to Trimble ID.

Will the user interface change?

Only the Jobpac Sign-on pages wil change. If you have configured any specific link for VPID SSO access, that bypasses the Jobpac Connect sign-on page, then you will need to ensure the official Jobpac Connect sign-on page URL is reinstated.

Is there a cost associated with this migration?

This activity does not affect your current contract with Trimble Viewpoint.

What if I use multiple logins?

As a best practice, we don’t recommend using multiple logins. However, if you do, each will need to have its own email address. Duplicate emails are not allowed within your organisation.
Note: Multiple usernames will consume additional licenses and sharing accounts is not allowed.

Does this upgrade change how I add new Jobpac users?

The workflow to set up a new Jobpac user with TID is almost identical, though there are some recommended steps that you may not be using already to ensure all new users get an invitation emailed to them.

See How do I create a new User in Jobpac with Trimble ID? for more information.

After the upgrade, can admins update the Trimble ID email address or password for users?

After the upgrade, all users can manage their own Trimble ID sign-on credentials at myprofile.trimble.com. Users can easily access this site by selecting the 'Key' icon at the top of the Jobpac Connect home page.

Note: Federated users must work with their IdP admin to change their email address.

Will this affect my federation with Microsoft Entra / Azure?

If you are currently federated with Viewpoint ID, you also need to federate with Trimble ID. Please allow two to four weeks for the federation process. You can commence this process by filling out the Trimble ID Federation Request form.

If you've already federated Trimble ID with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory, or AAD), then you're already using Trimble ID, and there is nothing for you to do.

If you haven't already federated with Microsoft Entra, the upgrade to Trimble ID makes it possible. To get started with moving to federated logins, complete the Trimble ID Federation form.

How do I know if I am already federated?

If you are already federated, when you go to myprofile.trimble.com and enter your email address, you will be redirected to Microsoft (or another federation provider, depending on your setup) to finish logging in.

Can I use an existing Trimble ID to sign in?

Yes, you can use the existing Trimble ID to sign in. One of the benefits of using a Trimble ID is that you can sign in to many Trimble products with the same set of credentials. However, after TID has been activated in your Jobpac environment, you will still need to link your existing TID to your Jobpac user profile. The process will be simplified with fewer steps.

Note: For security reasons, your administrator may require you to use a company email address. This may require you to edit your Trimble ID email address to match.
