Cost Type screen

Use the Cost Type screen to define cost types, which enable you to classify costs at the lowest level. For project and equipment cost types, you must associate a cost type category. In addition, you can set up overhead allocations for project and equipment cost types.

Note: To open the Cost Type screen, click Administration > Setup > Cost Type in the All Tasks pane.

If you are using the Estimating module, the cost type codes you set up here must match the names you set up in the Define Estimate Globals in order for the integration between the modules to function correctly. The following predefined cost types match the predefined cost types in the Estimating module:

  • Equip
  • Labor
  • Material
  • Subcont
Note: The Cost Type screen is a step in the initial setup process. The next step can vary:
  • If you haven't entered your chart of accounts into ProContractor yet and you want to import chart of accounts data from QuickBooks, the Import Data screen is the next step. If you want to import chart of accounts data from an Excel or TSV file, the Import Setup Data screen is the next step.
  • If you haven't entered your chart of accounts into ProContractor yet and you want to enter your chart of accounts manually, the Chart of Accounts screen is the next step.
  • Otherwise, the Contact Type screen is the next step.
