Create a project with a manually entered project number by copying an existing project

When copying a project, you can copy project details (including cost types, billing formats, and budgets) from an existing project.

  1. Open the Project screen.
  2. Note the active company. If you want to change it, click in the header and select the appropriate company.
  3. In the Project field, enter a code of up to eight alphanumeric characters to identify the new project.
Note: Alphanumeric characters include the letters A through Z, the numerals 0 through 9, and all special characters except comma, dash, period, percent, tilde, and single quote. In addition, the code cannot begin or end with a space.

Viewpoint recommends using unique project numbers across companies when possible.

  4. Press Tab.
  5. In the Name field, enter the name of the project.
  6. The project name should be unique and descriptive enough that other users can easily identify it in a lookup list. As a best practice, you should always give projects unique names across companies.

  7. Click Copy from Project.

In the Copy From Project Posting Type field on the Cost Codes tab, click to select the posting type of the existing project.
