The Vista: Human Resources dataset provides a consolidated source of data related to employee metrics and payroll. It includes fields and measures related to current and terminated employees, tenure, turnover rates, age range, gender, race, occupation, and payroll.

Employee Metrics

Active Employees Running Total

If used independently, it will return the current total number of employees. If used across a time period, it will consider whether an employee is active during that time period, and if their termination date (if applicable) is before the date on the visual. Conditions: 1. Hire Date <= Max date on visual 2. Active YN = Y 3. Blank Term Date OR Term Date > Max date on visual (accounts for those who may be active despite having a term date and those who are inactive with a blank term date).

Average Tenure

Average tenure in years. To be used across various dimensions.

Current Active Employees

Total number of distinct employees where Active YN = "Y". Based on hire date and a given point in time. If visualized with a time period (i.e. Year, Month) it will show results for that point in time. Use Running Total for "to date" totals.

Employee Tenure

The tenure for a given employee based on hire date.

New Hires

Total amount of distinct employees. To be used in conjunction with a date. References the Hire Date.

Terminated Employees

Total number of distinct employees where Active YN = "N". To be used with a date. Based on the Termination Date.

Terminated Employees Running Total

Cumulative running total of terminated employees. Use with date fields to see the trending total of terminated employees.

Turnover Rate

Terminated employees / Active employees.

Age Range

Age Range

Provides a list of different age range buckets based on employee birth date.

Calendar Date

The calendar date.

Note: Date refers to different dates determined by which metric it's being used with. Terminated Employees, Terminated Employees Running Total, and Turnover Rate reference 'Termination Date'. Active Employees Running Total, Average Tenure, Current Active Employees, Employee Tenure, and New Hires reference the 'Hire Date'.

Month

Includes all dates from the start of the month through the end of the month.

Quarter

Includes all dates from the start of the quarter through the end of the quarter.

Year

The numerical value of the calendar year.
