Balance the Job Site

  1. Open a job in the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen.
Note: To open a job in the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen, click Estimating > Earthwork > Manage Earthwork Estimates in the All Tasks pane. Click Open Existing Job. Then select the job you want to open, and click OK.
  2. Select the Summary tab, if it is not already active.
  3. Select the Active checkbox for at least one area.
  4. Click Balanceon the speedbar. The Site Balance popup window opens and displays the proposed areas for the job.
  5. To automatically balance the site, select the Automatic option button. To balance the site using a specific depth, click the Manual using option button, then enter the number of feet you want to raise or lower the selected areas to balance it.
Note: A positive number raises the areas and a negative number lowers the areas.
  6. Select the Slope Balance checkbox to apply a slope to the balanced areas.
  7. In the Run field, click to enter the run of the slope, if you selected the Slope Balance checkbox.
  8. In the Rise field, click to enter the rise of the slope, if you selected the Slope Balance checkbox.
  9. Under Select Proposed Area(s) to Raise or Lower, select the area(s) to be raised or lowered to balance the area selected in step 3.
Note: These areas must be at least partially enclosed by the area selected in step 3. Otherwise, the balancing procedure will have no effect. By default, all areas selected in step 3 will be selected here.
  10. Click OK. The Summary tab appears with a Balance section that displays the change in elevation required for each area you selected in step 9, along with the new calculated quantities based on the balancing.
  11. If the change in elevation required to balance the site exceeds the design limitations, you can rebalance the site manually using another elevation to calculate the most appropriate quantities.
