Change How Users Log In to the Portal
By default, users log in to the portal with their employee number and a password that they create. To select a different login method, use the Log in mode portal setting.
- Go to Admin > Portal Settings > Security / Login > Windows Authentication Login.

Locate the Log in mode setting and
choose an option to enforce how users log into the portal:

Vista Employee # Only (previously #1)
Default setting that allows users to log in with their Vista Employee number and the password that they created during enrollment. See Register for the Portal for details.
- Windows / Active Directory Only (previously
#2)If you use Windows authentication to log in to Vista, you can use that same login and password to access the portal.Important: Do not enable this setting without configuring your LDAP Domain and path. See Enable Windows Authentication Login for details.
- Both (previously #3)Allows users to have a Windows and an Employee number login.
- Users will be able to switch login modes by selecting Sign in with Windows account or Sign in with Employee #.
- To choose a default login mode, modify the setting Default log in to use on Log in Screen (setting location: Admin > Portal Settings > Security / Login > Windows Authentication Login.
- You can select this option in order to test Windows logins.
- SSO
(SAML) (previously #4)Allows you to link your portal to your existing single sign-on (SSO) system, set up through SAML. All users will log in to your portal this way.Important: Before you select this option, make sure that you have completed the following steps or you may lock yourself out of your portal:
- Link your portal to your SSO system. See Configure Single Sign-On (SSO via SAML) for details.
- Test the login in your SSO environment and verify that it works.
- TID/VPID SSO Only
Allows your users to log in using Trimble ID / Viewpoint ID (depending on which form of ID you have set up). All users will log in to your portal this way. This will be the only login option available on your portal login page.
Make sure you have Trimble ID / Viewpoint ID enabled and the portal setting Enable SSO through TC1 login turned on before choosing this login option. See Configure Trimble ID Logins for details.
