Accessing Azure Virtual Desktop Hosted Applications Using the Windows App
Guidance on installing the new Windows App, signing in with organizational credentials, and launching AVD-hosted applications, as well as notes on replacing the older Remote Desktop Client.
Steps:
Step:1
To connect to your devices and apps from Azure Virtual Desktop on Windows, please follow these steps:
- Download and install Windows App from the Microsoft Store.
Tip
You can also download the Windows app for Windows as a standalone installer outside of the Microsoft Store as a .msix file. You can find the download links in the article What's new in Windows App.
Step 2: Start the Sign-In Process
- Open the Windows app.
- On the welcome screen, click Sign in.
- The Microsoft Sign-In window will appear.
Step 3: Once the Windows App is open you will see a Microsoft sign in pop-up. This is where you will put your username ending with Viewpoint.cloud (This is NOT your email address). You will also need your password associated with the viewpoint.cloud account, your Cascade admin can reset it if you don't remember it.
You can also use the Self-Service Password Reset Tool (see Related Articles below).
- Enter your full AVD username in the required format
- Format: FirstInitial.Lastname.CompanyCode@viewpoint.cloud
- Example: J.Smith.ABC@viewpoint.cloud
- Click Next to proceed.
Step 4: Enter Your Password
- Click Sign in.
Step 5: You will then need to use your existing multi factor authentication (MFA) to approve this sign in - or - if this is your first time signing in, follow the directions.
Step 6: Access Your AVD Resources.
Once authentication is successful: The Windows App will open to your main dashboard.
If you see this screen, don’t be concerned — this is the default view for the Devices tab
VEC and PCC users can navigate to the Apps tab to view available applications.
Note: When VEC/PCC users click on Devices, they will see “No devices available.”
This is normal because these customers do not have desktop resources.
VFC customers will only have Devices option available.
- You will be prompted to re-enter your cloud password while launching Apps.
- You can click "Remember Password" and you will only be prompted once.
- After authentication, you should be able to access the selected application or desktop.
