Context Creating actual holes in a structural or architectural model is the responsibility of the structural engineer or architect. As an MEP engineer, you place opening requests (recesses) in your own model where your systems intersect with walls or floors. With the Openings for MEP app, you can automate this process.
Note: As of Stabicad version 25.05, the openings functionality offers direct support for .IFC reference models. It is no longer necessary to use workarounds like converting an IFC file to a .rvt file first.
Phase A: Detecting Interferences (Clashes)
  1. Ensure the architectural model (.RVT or .IFC) is linked as a reference model in your project.
  2. In the Revit ribbon, go to the Collaborate tab and click Interference Check > Run Interference Check.
  3. In the left column, select your MEP elements (e.g., Ducts, Pipes, or Cable Trays), and in the right column, select the architectural elements (e.g., Walls or Floors). Click OK.
  4. In the Interference Report window, click Export... and save the report as an HTML file (e.g., Clashes_Mechanical.html). Close the window.
Phase B: Generating Recesses via the Openings Monitor
  1. In the Stabicad ribbon, go to the Openings panel and click Start Openings for MEP (or Openings Monitor).
  2. In the window, click Load under the section Run or load an interference check.
  3. Select the HTML file you saved in the previous step and click Open.
  4. You will now see a list of all detected clashes. Select the desired rows.
  5. In the Margin column, enter the desired extra clearance (e.g., 20 mm, so the recess becomes larger than the duct itself).
  6. Click Combine/Apply (or Create Request) to generate the recess symbols in your model.
