How to: Build and import a custom product line or delivery program (PLS) in Stabicad
When to Build Your Own Product Line If you need to model with specific manufacturer fittings or pipes that are not yet provided in the online MEPcontent library or the default Stabicad installation
, you can define them yourself. Stabicad utilizes structured Excel sheets (Product Line Sheets) to catalog the geometry, diameters, and article metadata of piping and duct systems
. Copying an existing template ensures you have the correct schema and column formats required for import.
Phase 1: Preparing the Template
The standard copper template (Copper) is the ideal starting point because it is a comprehensive and stable reference file
.
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your main Stabicad installation directory.
Open the Productlines subfolder (typically located under ..\Stabicad NL\Productlines\ or your shared network drive)
.
Find the file named Copper.xlsx.
Create a copy of this Excel file (Ctrl+C, then Ctrl+V)
.
Rename the copy to reflect your manufacturer and product series (e.g., MyManufacturer_MySystem.xlsx).
Note: Ensure the file remains saved inside the Productlines directory so StabiBASE can automatically detect it.
Phase 2: Entering Manufacturer Data in Excel
Open your newly created Excel file. The template is divided into several tabs representing different pipe system components (such as pipe properties, bends, tees, and reducers)
:
'Product Line Information' Tab: Enter the general manufacturer metadata, including the Provider, Product line name, and local translations
.
'TUBE' Tab: Enter the exact outer and inner diameters of the pipes as specified in your manufacturer's catalog.
Fittings Tabs ('BEND', 'TEE', etc.): Enter the geometric values per diameter (e.g., center-to-end dimensions, radii, connection sizes) along with the unique manufacturer article numbers or GTIN/EAN codes
.
Phase 3: Importing the Delivery Program into StabiBASE
Once the Excel sheet is fully populated and saved in the Productlines folder
, you can activate the product line in your database:
Open StabiBASE.
Go to the Beheren (Manage) menu and select Importeren leveringsprogramma's... (Import delivery programs...)
.
The import window will open. In the lower section of the screen (beneath the online MEPcontent listings), your locally created Excel delivery programs will be displayed.
Check the box next to your new custom delivery program.
Click Importeren (Import)
.
Once the import is complete, the new product line is immediately available in your module's piping preferences
for designers to select and model with.
⚠️ Crucial Support & Maintenance Disclaimer
As an administrator, it is important to understand the support boundaries regarding custom-made product lines:
No Technical Content Support: Trimble Support provides no direct troubleshooting for self-built or manually modified Excel sheets (PLS). Modeling errors, calculation failures, or database crashes caused by incorrect dimensional entries, missing parameters, or broken formulas in your custom Excel file are excluded from standard service and maintenance contracts.
Supported Scope: Support is strictly limited to the technical functionality of StabiBASE's import feature itself (Phase 3) and the default product lines provided out-of-the-box (such as the original Copper catalog).
Best Practice: Always instruct a key user to thoroughly test your custom PLS in a sandbox/test project before rolling it out company-wide in your production environment
.
