How to: Implement Trimble CAD Platform (IntelliCAD) settings company-wide using an ARG file
Not version-specific
Stabicad
Context: Centralizing IntelliCAD settings The Trimble CAD Platform (driven by the IntelliCAD kernel) stores its user preferences in the Windows Registry, much like AutoCAD. To ensure that display configurations and folder locations are identical for all users across your organization, you can configure a centralized profile file.
Step-by-step: Creating the Trimble CAD Platform ARG file
Step 1: Define the settings
- Start any drawing from StabiBASE.
- In the menu bar, click Tools and then select Options.
- Go through the tabs and configure the various options (such as background color, cursor size, and autosave intervals) to your preferred corporate standards.
- Close the drawing and exit the CAD platform completely to write the changes to your registry.
Step 2: Export the registry key Note: The following steps should ideally be carried out by an IT administrator or computer expert.
- Open your Windows Start menu, type regedit, and launch the Registry Editor.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Trimble\CAD-platform 12.1 Professional x64\Profiles\STABICAD\Config
- Right mouse click on Config.
- Choose Export.

Step 3: Save the file in the Custom folder
- Save the exported registry file to your centralized Custom folder on the network.
- The exact destination path is:
...\Custom\Templates - Save the file under the exact name: ICAD65.ARG
- Important:
.ARGis the file extension. Ensure the file is not accidentally saved asICAD65.ARG.regorICAD65.arg.txt.
- Important:
StabiBASE will now read this centralized file every time a drawing is opened via the Trimble CAD Platform, ensuring your company standards are instantly active for the user.
