Troubleshooting: Unable to place electrical schematic symbol in drafting view
Not version-specific
Stabicad
Issue When working in, you are unable to place an electrical schematic symbol in a drafting view, and an error message appears. This workflow used to function correctly in previous versions of Revit. (See the attached image for the exact error message).
Cause This issue occurs because the affected schematic families are missing a defined "Type". Revit 2024 requires a Type to be present to successfully place the symbol in the drafting view.
Solution You can resolve this error by manually adding a Type to the affected family within your project. Follow these steps:
- Open the Project Browser in Revit.
- Scroll down and locate the specific electrical schematic family you are trying to place.
- Right-click on the family name.
- Select "New Type" from the context menu.
- You should now be able to place the schematic symbol in the drafting view without encountering the error.
Error message
- Family " ..... " does not have the right family type (Default/Built-in/Surface mounted) and cannot be used
