Context: The problem During the installation of the Microsoft SQL server (whether via Stabicad tools or manually), the process may abort with the following specific error message: "Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed. Check the SQL Server error log for potential causes."
The Cause This error primarily occurs when installing an SQL server on a machine that is simultaneously configured as a Domain Controller. The default selected account lacks sufficient permissions in that environment (or the account is corrupted), rendering it unable to bring the SQL server online.
The Solution You must restart the installation and make a specific adjustment to the account management of the SQL services.
  1. Restart the SQL Server installation wizard.
  2. Proceed through the steps until you reach the Server Configuration step.
  3. In the Service Accounts tab, look for the line associated with the SQL Server Database Engine.
  4. Change the Account Name in this line to NT Authority\SYSTEM (This account is also known as the Local System account).

  1. Complete the remainder of the installation normally. The SQL server will now have the appropriate permissions to start successfully.
