Import .DWG/.DXF Files

Follow these steps to import .DWG files from AutoCad into Object Manager.

Watch this video for a demonstration of how to import .DWG files.

CAD DWG drawing files (.dwg) are used in architecture, civil engineering, design, and mapping industries. If blocks are detected during DWG import, you will receive a warning so you can decide if you want to explode them. When a block is exploded, its attributes are read.

If you export unedited CAD objects to a CAD file format, their native properties exist in the exported objects.

Note: When you import CAD files, the imported objects retain their native properties. Depending on the object, these properties may include:
  • Name
  • Line or text style
  • Line style scale or text size
  • Color
  • Layer
  • Elevation
  1. Follow the general steps in Import Files.
  2. Specify options in the DWG Reader Settings Editor's Import Settings.
  3. Select OK.
  4. Complete additional steps in Import Files.
  5. Select Finish.
