Context When resolving installation issues, it is sometimes necessary to remove residual keys from the Windows registry. The Stabicad installation folder contains a hidden gem for this: the InstallerCleanup.exe. Although this tool is configured by default to clean up Stabicad and CAD platform remnants, it features a free text field. This allows you to use the tool to search the registry for remnants of any arbitrary installed software.
⚠️ Warning beforehand: Modifying the Windows registry can affect the operation of the system. Use this tool carefully and always check what you select.
Step-by-step plan: Searching and removing specific registry values
Step 1: Starting the tool
- Navigate in Windows Explorer to the folder where the original Stabicad installation files were extracted.
- Open the file via the path:
.\Tools\Installer Cleanup\InstallerCleanup.exe. - Note: After double-clicking, a Windows warning (UAC) may appear, depending on the administrator rights set for that Windows account. Accept this to continue.
Step 2: Understanding the interface The main screen of the tool is clearly divided into two parts:
- Left side (Registry): Here, the tree structure with the found registry values will appear.
- Right side (Log): A log is kept here containing, among other things, the number of found entries.
Step 3: Performing a search
- At the top left of the screen, you will find an input field. By default, this is filled with the text 'Stabicad/Intellicad/CAD-platform'.
- Delete this text and type in the name of the software whose remnants you want to find (for example,
SketchUp). - Click on the red 'Search registry' button next to the input field.
- Note: Depending on the speed of the system and the size of the registry, this search process may take a moment.
Step 4: Selecting and Removing
- Once the search is complete, the results appear on the left side in a tree-like structure, provided with checkboxes.
- In the right column (Log), you can see exactly how many items were found.
- You can now check specific folders or keys, or use the 'Select all' box at the top to select everything at once.
- Finally, click the (now active) red button 'Remove selected entities' at the bottom of the screen to permanently delete the checked registry values.
