View Layers

You can select multiple layers of annotations to view at the same time.

Layers to View

This feature enables you to view the following different layers independently or combined:
  • Takeoff Existing layer
  • Takeoff Proposed layer
  • Area Existing layer
  • Area Proposed layer
  • Trench layer
  • Len/EA Existing layer
  • Len/EA Proposed layer
  • Substrata layer
  • Reference Points layer
  • Layout Points Existing layer
  • Layout Points Proposed layer
  • AutoCAD Text layer
  • Image layer

Select the layers you want to view in the Takeoff tab, Area tab, Trench tab, Len/EA tab, and Section tab. For more details, see Select Layers to View.

To view selected layers in the Grid tab, you must first click Layers on the speedbar. See View Layers in a Grid for more information.

Tip: If the drawing contains vectors, you might choose not to view the Image layer. When the Image layer is hidden, you can see the vectors more clearly and can create your annotations with improved speed and accuracy. Note that even if the Image layer is not selected for viewing, the application will still display the background image when you add a new image to the job or use matchlines.

The Image layer will be automatically selected for viewing when you switch from an image that contains vectors to an image that does not.

Active Layers

When you view layers, one layer is specified as the active layer. The active layer is always visible and it enables you to digitize and select elevations and areas on that layer. The active layer is selected on the toolbar at the bottom of the Manage Earthwork Estimates screen.

AutoCAD Layers

If you imported the drawing from an AutoCAD file, you can select the AutoCAD Text layer to view elevation information that could not be assigned during the import. The application only displays the AutoCAD text for the active layer on the current tab. The following layers may have AutoCAD text available:
  • Takeoff Existing
  • Takeoff Proposed
  • Area Existing
  • Area Proposed
  • Trench
