Set Up a GTCO Hardboard Digitizer

The following hardboard digitizers are supported:
  • GTCO Super L VI
  • GTCO Super L IV
  • GTCO Super L III
  • GTCO Super L II+
  • GTCO Super L II

The main difference between these models is the connector hardware. The Super L VI and Super L IV include both a serial and a USB connector. The other models include only a serial connector.

Viewpoint recommends that you use the serial connection if your computer has a serial port available. Many computers don't have a serial port. If you cannot use a serial connection, connect your hardboard digitizer using a USB connection. If you own a model prior to the Super L IV and your computer does not have a serial port to accept the hardware, purchase a Serial-to-USB adaptor.

The application may function with other digitizers. If you are unsure whether your digitizer is compliant, Contact Trimble Viewpoint Support.

Opmerking: Do not install both a digitizer and a touch screen monitor on the same workstation.

It is important to find a suitable place for your hardboard digitizer. A pedestal base, which is typically purchased along with the hardboard digitizer, is ideal. If you don't have a pedestal base, place your hardboard digitizer on a non-metallic surface.

Digitizer boards are sensitive electronic equipment that function on a copper grid. Metallic objects or electronic devices can have an adverse effect on your takeoff. Something as simple as lead pencil marks on your plans, which are placed on your digitizer board, can cause problems. In addition, conductive materials, inks, or electronic devices on, under, or around the digitizer board can cause improper operation.

Before you connect any cables to the digitizer or computer, verify that you have the following parts:

  • Transducer (stylus pen or 4/16 button cursor)
  • USB cable (Super L VI and Super L IV only)
  • Serial cable (RS-232)
  • Power cable (DC IN)
Opmerking: The Super L IV model is shown here. Earlier models don't have a USB connection.
