Migration Guide - Upgrading NP18 Projects to NP19 and Newer
How to migrate from Novapoint 18 (and older) to Novapoint 19 (and newer).
This is a migration guide focusing on moving projects up from Novapoint 18 and older, to newer versions.
The change in our the Novapoint software that happened between Novapoint 18 and 19 is a massive one that happened back in 2013. The old terrain model of and data in Novapoint 18, is not compatible with the newer version of Novapoint 19. The migration process is quite extensive.
How to get the old terrain and subsurface model into the new software?
Use the import function in Quadri on the source data, not the TMG files.
-
The terrain data still resides in the TMG-files of Novapoint 18, but we recommend making new imports from source files like DWG, LandXML and other formats. As for the terrain model we also recommend not reusing the old terrain data that was in the project as they are probably outdated and probably has changed. You should contact local authorities for the newest data.
-
The subsurface data may also have changed, but for deeper layers it should be similar today as it was before, unless the subsurface layers have had external interferance related to work in the area.
How to get the old road and railway models into the new software?
Use (1) the import function in Quadri and (2) use the template for existing model in the Road/Rail task to move the GEN files into the new project. When talking about GEN files we are also expecting a set of other model files to be present with the same filename, f.ex *.HOR, *.VER, *.VRT etc.
-
Import: Go to Insert > Import in Quadri and choose to import the GEN-files
-
In Import settings, choose to not import the terrain data, only the lines. Importing the terrain from the GEN files will import the terrain cross-sections for that roadmodel. This is OK, but not necessary as you are probably creating this from other sources.
-
When importing multiple roadmodels you may experience that some lines exists in multiple roadmodels. In these cases they will not be imported as long as a line with the same name already exists in the project. If you know the newer import is the correct one, then stop the import and delete/rename the line found in the project before importing.
-
-
Road/Rail task: Create a new task and use the template "From Existing model (*.GEN)". This will read the cross-sections of the road/rail model and create the 3D model in the project.
-
It will try to connect all the alignments used as reference line and alignment as surface edge. If the name of the alignment has changed (see previous mention), then the model will not find it.
-
Migrate from Novapoint 18 (and older) to Novapoint 19 (and newer)
When the project has the road/rail tasks set up with connection to alignment and the calculation basis, they can be built and updated as normal.
- Create the WS task.
- Go into the task template and use the Import from previous versions.
- Set up any calculation basis needed.
- Finish the task.
