Making Selections

In Trimble Connect for Windows, there are several modes that you can use to select objects in 3D.

These are:
  • Single Selection Mode
  • Area Selection Mode
  • Assembly Selection Mode

The default selection mode is Single Selection Mode. This mode is on by default and cannot be explicitly disabled.

Select an Object

In Trimble Connect for Windows, follow these steps to select a single object using the default selection mode.

Objects can be picked in 3D view.
When activating one of the following tools, the default mode is disabled:
  • Area selection
  • Measurements
  • Markups
  • Clip planes
  • Model relocation tools

When some tool is deactivated explicitly (by selecting the button, or pressing ESC , or by selecting close in model relocation tools), the default picking mode is automatically activated.

  1. Load a model in the Trimble Connect for Windows 3D Viewer.
  2. Ensure that Single Selection Mode is selected on the toolbar.
  3. Select an object in the model.
    • If you want to select multiple objects separately, hold down SHIFT and pick the objects.
    • If you want to remove single objects from your selection, hold down CTRL and pick the objects.

Select Multiple Objects in an Area

In Trimble Connect for Windows, follow these steps to select multiple objects using the area selection mode.

This tool allows you to click and drag an area of the model to select all objects. You can also hold the left mouse button for 0.5 seconds and drag and drop the cursor.
  1. Load a model in the Trimble Connect for Windows 3D Viewer.
  2. On the toolbar, select Area Selection.
  3. Hold down the left mouse button.
  4. Define the area as follows:
    • Drag the mouse from left to right, to select all objects entirely within the desired area.
    • Drag the mouse from right to left, to select all objects partly within the desired area.
  5. Release the left mouse button.

Assembly Selection Mode

When the Assembly Selection Mode is activated in Trimble Connect for Windows, selecting an object automatically selects the assembly that the object belongs to. Note that this only applies if the object belongs to an assembly. Otherwise, the object itself is selected.

Modifier key Alt reverses the selection mode. The selection mode setting is remembered between user sessions. The Objects Tab content is also filtered based on the selection mode.

  • When Assembly Selection Mode is enabled, the content is filtered to show only assemblies/systems and objects if they do not belong to either one.
  • When Object Selection Mode is enabled, both assemblies and single objects they contain are shown in the objects list.

Select an Assembly

In Trimble Connect for Windows, follow these steps to select a single assembly using the assembly selection mode tool.

  1. Load a model in the Trimble Connect for Windows 3D Viewer.
  2. Ensure that Single Selection Mode is selected on the toolbar.
  3. On the toolbar, enable Assembly Selection Mode.
  4. Select an object in the model.
If there is an assembly present in the model, it is selected; otherwise the part is selected.

Select All Assemblies in an Area

In Trimble Connect for Windows, follow these steps to select all assemblies in an area using the assembly selection mode tool.

  1. Load a model in the Trimble Connect for Windows 3D Viewer.
  2. Ensure that Area Selection Mode is selected on the toolbar.
  3. On the toolbar, enable Assembly Selection Mode.
  4. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse from left to right to create a rectangle around the desired area.
  5. Release the left mouse button.
If there is an assembly present in the model, it is selected; otherwise the part is selected.
