The Comp/Attach tab on the EM Equipment form is used to assign attachments and components to primary equipment.

Attachments are pieces of equipment that are attached to other pieces of equipment (e.g. a bucket attached to a backhoe). Each attachment is set up as a piece of equipment (i.e. Type is Equipment) and then assigned to a primary piece of equipment on this tab. Since they typically remain with the primary piece of equipment, each time the primary piece of equipment is transferred from one location or job to another, its attachments are automatically transferred as well.

You can specify to have revenue posted to the attachment by checking thePost Revenue to Attachment box. When usage is posted to the primary piece of equipment, usage will also be posted to the attachment. Because attachments are set up as individual pieces of equipment, you can designate the revenue rate you want used whenever usage is posted to the attachment. Usage will be posted using the same revenue code specified for the primary piece of equipment, so make sure you set up the same revenue codes (in EM Revenue Rates by Category) for the attachment as you have set up for the primary piece of equipment.

Components are elements that are essential to the operation of a primary piece of equipment such as engines, transmissions, drive lines, and so forth. You will typically use components when you need to track equipment costs at a more detailed level than the overall piece of equipment. Components are set up and maintained like regular equipment except that they are flagged with a Type of Component, and do not require the same information (e.g. category, department, location, revenue code, job, etc.). This is because some information is assumed the same as that of the equipment to which the component is attached.

If you are tracking costs at the component level, you must check the Post Costs to Components box for the equipment to which the component is attached. When costs are posted to the primary equipment, they will also be posted for the component. If a component is moved to another piece of equipment, all of the previous costs posted to that component will be carried with it. This allows you to track the costs of the equipment with any component on it, or the cost of the component, regardless of the piece of equipment to which it was attached.
