Installation Instructions for Service Packs: Overview

The following provides a high-level overview of the installation process for each release.

Install the major release version first before installing any service packs related to that major version.

This is because service packs build off the enhancements of the associated major release version.

For example, before installing the Vista 2023 R1.03 service pack, make sure you have installed the associated major release version, Vista 2023 R1. Do not update directly from a previous major version, such as Vista 2022 R2, to the 2023 R1.03 service pack, as the versions will not be compatible.

Important: If you have made extensive customizations (reports, custom triggers, etc.) you should install this release on a test system to verify your customizations are working correctly before installing the release in a live environment.
  1. Review the release notes. You can access the release notes here on Viewpoint Help:
    1. From the left side menu, select What's New.
    2. At the bottom of the What's New menu section, select Vista Service Packs.
Note: The title of the Vista Service Packs section differs for each release. For example, for the 2023 R1 release, the title will show as Vista 2023 R1 Service Packs.
The Vista Service Packs section expands and displays all available service packs for the specified release.
    3. Select the applicable service pack.
The release notes for the selected service pack display to the right.
  2. Back up your Vista database, Viewpoint Repository folder, and Viewpoint Remote Services folder.
  3. Download the Vista installation file(s) from the Viewpoint Customer Portal. Make sure to download any prerequisites before installing the Vista client. Specifics are provided in the Vista Installation Files Download section.
  4. Upgrade your Vista database and application servers. For specifics, see the Vista Servers section.
Note: Make sure that all users are logged out before beginning. The upgrade process can take one (1) hour or more to complete.
