Changes to Vista Releases in 2025 FAQ
Learn about the upcoming changes to the Vista release cadence. These changes will go into effect with the June release, 2025.6.
What is changing?
Beginning in June 2025, we are introducing the new Vista release cadence: Smaller, more frequent cumulative updates will now replace the semiannual major release and service pack model.
The first release will be version 2025.6. The version number now reflects the year and the month of release (6 = June, for example). This update will be followed by successive releases, approximately every two months throughout the year.
How is this change beneficial?
This change in release cadence means you get better software, faster updates, stronger security, and a product that evolves with your feedback.
- Faster access to new features and improvements: More frequent releases means you get faster access to new features, improvements, and bug fixes without waiting six months or longer for the next major version.
- Faster implementation & reduced testing burden: More frequent releases also means smaller releases, which will reduce your testing burden and be quicker and easier to implement.
- More reliable software: This delivery schedule improves reliability because problems can be found and fixed sooner. Development and QA have improved their testing focus and monitoring to ensure updates meet higher quality standards before they reach you.
- User-centered product evolution: With more frequent releases, your feedback can be acted on much faster, meaning Vista can evolve based on your needs, not just long-term product plans.
Does this change the way updates are delivered?
No. You will continue to receive updates the same way you do today.
How will year-end regulatory updates be handled?
Year-end regulatory updates will be handled similarly to how they are managed today.
- AUS Year-End: The 2025.6 release in June will include the year-end regulatory updates for Australia (tax year runs from 1 July to 30 June)
- US Year-End: The 2025.12 release in December will include the coming year-end regulatory updates for the United States (tax year runs from January 1 to December 31)
- CAN Year-End: The 2025.12 release in December will include the coming year-end regulatory updates for Canada (tax year runs from 1 January 1 to 31 December)
Should I still opt out of automatic updates?
We encourage everyone to stay current with the latest release. However, you may opt out of automatic updates to accommodate internal testing and change management policies.
Which Vista versions are considered supported versions?
Supported versions include the latest version and one version prior. For example, if the current version is 2025.8, the supported versions would be 2025.6 and 2025.8.
Our Support team will always be willing to help customers with questions and issues as they arise, regardless of version.
Will we still release separate tax updates?
Yes. Tax updates are typically version agnostic and will continue to be released as they are today.
