Trimble Connect Mirror (Beta)

Trimble Connect Mirror improves how you manage and synchronize your project files and folders within the construction lifecycle.

What Mirror Does

Any changes you make locally are instantly reflected on the Trimble Connect server, and any changes made by others - whether on their computers or on the server - are instantly reflected on your local computer.

Specifically, Mirror synchronizes these operations between the Trimble Connect server and your local computer:
  • Add /Upload - Creating or dragging a new file/folder into a synced location.
  • Replace - Overwriting an existing file with a new version.
  • Rename - Changing the name of a file/folder.
  • Move - Changing the location of a file/folder.
  • Delete - Removing a file/folder.

Use standard Windows File Explorer methods to perform the desired operation on a file or folder.

Both the Trimble Connect server and your local computer are considered the source of truth. Mirror's synchronization operations rely on a time stamp sequence. If conflicts arise, the system uses your local computer changes to reflect on the server.

Deleting or Moving Files or Folders
Because the delete and move actions affect your entire project team, when you take these actions on your local computer, the application
  • provides an alert to warn you that the operation will impact the folder hierarchy on the Trimble Connect server
  • requires confirmation to proceed.

If you need to restore a deleted file, see Restore Deleted Files and Folders.

Benefits of Trimble Connect Mirror

Some of the key benefits of Trimble Connect Mirror:
  • Real-time sync: instant, two-way sync, without any required action, and without waiting. Once you select what content you want synced, subsequent sync operations are always running in the background, ensuring that you access only the latest version of a given file.
  • Selective sync: choose which files and folders you want to work on locally and which to keep in the cloud.
  • Transparency: all local file/folder operations (Add, Delete, Move, Rename, and Replace) are reflected automatically on the Trimble Connect server and vice-versa. For example, if you delete something locally, it's deleted from the Connect server; if you move something on the server, the change is reflected in your local folder structure. There's even a restore option in case anything gets deleted by mistake.
  • Project Hierarchy Visibility: view the entire project and folder structure on your computer without having to download everything.
  • Efficiency: save space while still being able to navigate your project files easily by using a dedicated mounted drive, which functions like a local network drive.

Mirror vs Sync

Trimble Connect Mirror can help you be more productive by requiring less manual intervention than Sync requires to maintain synchronization.

You can use both Connect Sync and Trimble Connect Mirror on the same computer, but if you do, you should choose different target folder locations for each one to avoid confusion and file corruption.

Getting Started

These are the high-level steps to use Trimble Connect Mirror for the first time.
  1. Install the application, including the optional desktop shortcut which makes it easier to locate your local project root.
  2. Configure the application - designate your local sync folder, choose which projects to display, and select file type filters.
  3. Select content for synchronization - choose the files and folders you want to download to your device. Once you make your selections, the content downloads to your local storage. During the course of your work, content remains permanently synchronized because subsequent sync operations are always running in the background.
