WBS/UBS Code Values
The WBS/UBS code structure defines the individual values that make up each WBS/UBS code.
-
Code – The actual value of the code that is applied to a cost item. For example, if WBS1 is named Phase, the values could be 1, 2, 3, and 4. Once you enter a value for a WBS/UBS code, you can select it to apply it to a cost item. You can also enter custom values in the spreadsheet views.
-
Description – Contains a more detailed explanation of the value. For example, you might enter a description of Planning for the value 1 for the WBS code, Phase. This description appears in the Summary tab.
-
Quantity – Use it to calculate a unit cost in the Summary tab. After all the cost items of a WBS code value are totaled, the total cost is divided by the quantity to calculate the unit cost.
-
Unit – Displays the unit of measure for the unit cost in the Summary tab.
-
Baseline – Use it to compare the current total for a WBS code value with a saved baseline value. This feature enables you to save budgets as baselines to compare against actual totals, compare alternates, and compare previous totals to current totals. Only used in the Summary tab.
-
Notes – Free form text. You can add up to four notes to each item.
You can edit all of the properties of WBS/UBS code values. You can also delete values. If you change or delete the value of a WBS/UBS code, all cost items in the catalog or estimate that have the old value are not updated. You will need to either manually go back and change the values for each cost item, or you will need to use the global update feature to update the values. See Copy Globals Using the Estimating Explorer for more information.
You can have ProContractor automatically spread WBS code values from an assembly cost item to assembly members if you have selected the Spread WBS codes to assembly members checkbox in the Estimating Preferences screen. When you change an assembly WBS code value with this option selected, ProContractor only spreads the value to members that have a blank value for the WBS code.
-
Member A: WBS1 = 03
-
Member B: WBS1 = blank
-
Member C: WBS1 = 04
If you change WBS1 at the assembly level from 03 to 55, ProContractor updates WBS1 values for the member cost items as follows:
-
Member A: WBS1 = 03
-
Member B: WBS1 = 55
-
Member C: WBS1 = 04
In addition, if Replace 'like-WBS' codes in WBS spread checkbox is also selected in Estimating Preferences, any members with WBS code values that are the same as the assembly will be changed to the new WBS code value for the assembly.
If both of these options are selected, ProContractor fills all blank codes with the assembly’s WBS code value, and modifies any codes that were identical to the assembly’s original WBS code value.
-
Member A: WBS1 = 03
-
Member B: WBS1 = blank
-
Member C: WBS1 = 04
-
Member A: WBS1 = 55
-
Member B: WBS1 = 55
-
Member C: WBS1 = 04
To open a job in the Manage Estimates screen, click OK.
in the All Tasks pane. Then select the job you want to open, and click- Multiple users can work on the same job in the Estimating tab at the same time. The last person to perform an edit function to an estimate item will have the data retained.
- Any sorts a user performs are temporary unless the job is set to Exclusive mode, which allows you to save sorts. Moving items also requires the job to be set to exclusive, or the move will be temporary.
- To turn Exclusive mode on, get all other users to close the job, then click Set Job Exclusive. Make the changes to the estimate, then turn Exclusive mode off by clicking Set Job Exclusive again.
- You can also lock a job, which not only turns on Exclusive mode, it prevents other users from editing the job. Note that all users can view a locked job. To lock a job, get all other users to close the job, then click Lock Job. To unlock a job, click Lock Job again.
- Any filters performed in the Estimate tab are only seen by the user performing the filter.
- You will see changes occur in real-time by changing tabs in the Manage Estimates screen or by refreshing the Estimate tab.
