Import a BIM File Screen Field Reference

BIM File Mapping popup window

The BIM File Mapping popup window is displayed for each text file in the specified directory. Use the popup to map the columns in the specified file to columns in the cost items. You can skip individual text files or use the same mapping for all remaining files.

Important: Be sure to note the current file while defining the file mapping.

Select cost item column mapping for file

Displays the text file for which the popup window is displayed.

Cost Item Type

Click to select the type of cost items contained in the file. .

  • Material

  • Labor

  • Equipment

Reference

Select the option for how the application will determine the contents of the Reference field.

  • Use Data Column - Click on the column in the file that you want to map to the Reference field of the cost items. You can select multiple columns to include in the Reference field. The contents of the selected columns are combined in the order listed.

  • Use Schedule Name as Prefix - Use this option to create the Reference field for the cost items using the schedule name in the file or specified text and an increment number. For example, if the schedule name in the file is A1-Door and the file contains three cost items, the References for the imported cost items would be A1-Door 01, A1-Door 02, and A1-Door 03. In the field below the option, specify the text for the prefix of the Reference field for the cost items in the file. Cost items in the file are numbered in the order they are in the file.

Description

Click on the column in the file that you want to map to the Description field of the cost items. You can select multiple columns to include in the Description field. The contents of the selected columns are combined in the order listed.

Quantity/Units

Click on the column in the file that you want to map to the Quantity field of the cost items.

Default Units

Click to select the default units for the cost items.

WBS Codes tab

WBS Codes WBS1-20

Click to select the column in the file that you want to map to the WBS code. These fields can be customized in the Define Globals screen in the Define Estimate Globals or the Define Catalog Globals.

Footer

Use this mapping for all subsequent files

Select this checkbox to use the column mapping settings for the current file for all remaining files in the directory.

File Contents

Displays the contents of the specified file.

Export

Click the button to save the column mapping for the specified file and continue to the next file in the directory.

Next

Click the button to skip the current file and continue to the next file in the directory. The skipped file will not be imported.

Cancel

Click the button to cancel the import. Cancel only cancels the import for the files remaining in the directory. Items already imported for previous files in the directory remain imported as defined.
