Trimble License Policy FAQ
Frequently asked questions regarding Trimble's single named-user license policy and device sharing.
Trimble License Policy
Each product license is intended for use by a single named user - a real person using their first name, last name, and email address - for the duration of the subscription term. The person using a license must match the person assigned to that license when purchasing or renewing a subscription.
Licenses cannot be shared between users or used to authorize multiple users on a shared device.
Single named-user licenses cannot be transferred to another user, but can be updated under specific scenarios.
For details, see the Trimble User Assignment and Device Management Policy.
- Each license is assigned to a single person.
- Licenses are assigned to a single person, not a device.
- Email addresses used for licensing must represent an actual individual.
- Users cannot share licenses.
- Each user must sign in to use a product.
- A license can't be transferred unless specific conditions are met.
Can I share my license sign-in credentials with another person?
No. Your account and its associated credentials are assigned to you only. When you set up a Trimble ID, you agree not to share your username, password, or any other security information with anyone else.
We have multiple users on a rotating schedule. Only one is ever using the product at a time. Do we need multiple licenses?
Yes. Each person who needs access must sign in using their credentials and have their own assigned license. Licenses cannot be shared between users.
Our license is on a shared device so that anyone who needs to use it can. Is this in compliance with the Terms of Use?
No. Each product license is tied to a specific named user, not to the hardware on which the product is installed. Any person using a product on that shared device needs to sign in using their credentials and assigned license.
Our licenses are for a computer lab. Different users need to use them at different times. How can we bypass the sign-in requirement so that these computers are always ready for the next user?
There is no way to bypass the sign-in requirement. Licenses are tied to a single user, not a device. Any person using a product on a workstation in a computer lab needs to sign in using their credentials and assigned license.
If you conduct training from a computer lab for a school or organization, please reach out to your Trimble rep for help navigating the two-step verification (2SV) sign-in requirements.
Our users don’t always need to use the product. Can we reassign the license to whoever needs to use it?
Each product license is intended for use by a single named user for the duration of the subscription term.
- An employee leaves the company, and their license needs to be assigned to an active employee.
- An employee moves to a new role that no longer requires a product license.
- A third-party contractor's or temporary employee's term ends.
- A mistake was made during the license assignment.
Can we install the product on a server and access it via Remote Desktop?
While remote access, or using a virtual environment, is possible, the same licensing terms apply. Only one license can access the product at a time, and each license must be used by a single, named user. When using a product remotely or through a virtual environment, some products may not function as intended, and your available support options may be limited.
