What's New in Field View 2022 R4

The third Viewpoint Field View™ release of 2022 reveals minor updates to the look and feel of the Field View web application, which are results of preparatory work to integrate (in the future) with Trimble solutions. The update also includes fixes to many customer-reported issues.

Preparing for integration with Trimble solutions

At some point in the future, each Field View user's login credentials will be linked to new Trimble login credentials, which will be used thereafter for accessing Viewpoint products. This will grant you access to additional Trimble products through integrations with Field View.

The work we've done so far results in these changes in this release:

  • The Field View login screen is updated to the standard Trimble Viewpoint login screen. This new login screen doesn't change how users log in, nor require any different usernames or passwords.
  • Password and other profile changes can only be changed now from New Web. Selecting either of these options under My Field View in Classic Web invites the user to complete the action in New Web:
    • Change Password
    • Personal Details

Users that accept the offer are redirected to My Settings.

Mobile App Performance Boost

We've begun making fundamental changes to the mobile application that should result in better performance now, with further improvements to come. Specifically, we're improving how the app occupies and releases memory (RAM).

As a result of the improvements in this release, mobile device users can expect more reliability when using the camera or other features that tend to consume relatively high ratios of memory. At the same time, users should experience fewer app crashes and lost user sessions.

Security Improvements prevent use of Internet Explorer (IE)

Starting with this release, you cannot use the IE browser to access Field View. Security upgrades applied to Field View's core components have resulted in their incompatibility.

If you've used the IE browser for Field View up until now, you must now identify and use a different browser in order to log in to Field View. Viewpoint recommends the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

In the coming months: Overnight Sync is rolling out

We're nearly ready to introduce a new feature designed to improve project data accuracy by increasing the frequency that data transfers to and from mobile devices. With more up-to-date project data, you can generate more meaningful reports, and base decisions on information that reflects the current and actual state of each project.

Once we enable Overnight Sync, data on mobile devices will be permitted to sync during non-working hours while the device is charging.

Users will ideally be required to spend less time and effort syncing their devices during working hours. In addition, fewer users will be forced to sync if they haven't synced recently, reducing interruptions in their workflow.
