Post a Change Order to the Estimate

Use the Post option to copy a change order's cost items to the estimate. Once you post a change order, all cost items associated with that change order become a part of the estimate. Posted change orders are still listed on the Change Orders tab, but they are grayed out to reflect their posted status. For more information on statuses, see the Status of a Change Order.

To open a job in the Manage Estimates screen, click Estimating > Estimating > Manage Estimates in the All Tasks pane. Then select the job you want to open, and click OK.

Posted change orders and their cost items can no longer be managed from the Change Orders tab; they must be managed from within the Estimate tab instead. The only exception to this is that posted change orders can be deleted from the Change Orders tab, but the cost items are not removed from the estimate.

When you first add a cost item to a change order, you select one WBS code in the estimate to be renamed "Change Order." Any cost item belonging to a posted change order will have its change order's reference code displayed in this column. You cannot change the values for the Change Order WBS code.

A new filter is automatically created in the Estimate tab for each posted change order's reference code, allowing you to view cost items that were brought into the estimate as part of a specific change order. The filter is named based on its reference code. If a change order has a reference code of CO1, the associated filter is aCO1.

If necessary, you can retract a posted change order from an estimate. The cost items are removed from the estimate and the status of the change order is changed to Approved.

If the Allow creation of Change Order Requests for Change Orders? checkbox in Estimating Preferences screen is selected, you will not be able to set the status of a change order or post a change order to the estimate. You must use the Enter Change Management Record screen and the Create a Change Order process in the Projects module to include the change order in the project.
